My favourite part of being a blogger is all the connections you make with people – new and old. I’ve had lots of people reach out to me to ask me for advice when starting a blog, fashion tips, where to go for dinner, and to collaborate. All the networking is really the most rewarding part of building and developing Frankly Ray as a website and a brand.
I recently collaborated with a girl I went to high school with whom I only kept up with by reading her Facebook statuses (seriously what would we do without Facebook?). It was really great being able to catch up after six years with Siobhan Hertil and really hear about her adventures after high school.
“I’ve been in the beauty industry for about 5 years now, starting out in the Vancouver fashion industry. I’m trained in all aspects of makeup from beauty & bridal, to prosthetics and special effects.”
I worked with her to have my makeup done for a shoot I was doing – it was a lovely change in the work I had to put in before a shoot and the quality of my face in the photos. I never got into spending hours blending and powdering my face, so it was really cool to see how contouring works in real life and how you can change your eye shape/look with just makeup. I had Siobhan write down the look because I could not keep up with all the different colours and applications that were going on.
“The look that was designed for you was a soft brown based smokey eye, created using the Kat Von D Shade + Light eye kit. I created a contoured skin finish using the Anastasia Beverly Hills creme contour kin in medium & set the look with my favourite bronzer by too faced, MACS “Gold Rush” as well as the Sephora brand banana powder. Lip colour was custom mixed using vegan line OCC lip tar in “Hush” & “shroom” by Lime Crime.”
The final product really was beautiful and I loved the smoky eye that she gave me (that’s what I always want to look like, but it never quite turns out that way).
If you’re a makeup guru like Siobhan, her favourite product right now is “The Lime Crime Lip Velvetine! I’m obsessed with the shade “Cashmere”.” If you’re looking for a new product to try, she recommends that one.
