My girlfriends and I went to Diner en Blanc a couple weeks ago and it was such a magical experience. We have vowed to go every year as a tradition as we start getting older and having different lives. If you’ve never heard of it, it’s a huge group, public picnic that started off in France a long time ago. Everyone dresses in all white and brings picnic supplies with them (all white, table, chairs, basket, plates, etc. etc.). It happens in a random public space and when it’s over you clean up and leave the space like it never happened. It seems like a lot of work, but it was totally worth it for the experience.

It made me fall in love with the idea of picnics again – I hadn’t been on one since I can’t even remember. Who doesn’t love picnics? It is such a romantic and gorgeous experience if it’s done right, plus you get to spend time outside, eat delicious finger food, and drink bottles of wine without judgement (or overpaying). Sounds like a win-win to me. Let’s be real, we are all just doing it for the gram anyways. If you’re going to do it right, you need to plan a few days in advance to make sure you don’t miss anything on your inner-city getaway (it’s still summer!)

Here’s what was in my basket:

  • Rose (it pairs well with everything, trust me)
  • Donuts (Tim Hortons is the way to go, they are cheap and how cute are these vanilla dip ones?!)
  • Water (because it’s just a fancy looking bottle)

That was it. It was for the shoot, but really that’s probably what I would pack for a real one too. A super cute, hippy blanket is always ideal, especially if you’re planning on putting it up on social.
