What motivates you? What pushes you forward? Make shit happen.

Those are questions that I ask myself daily, re-evaluating my goals, choices and values on a daily basis. It might seem excessive but it’s easy to get trapped in a routine – we all have busy schedules and you can find yourself just living day to day without any real control over your life. If you ask yourself what’s driving you forward each day, you keep yourself accountable to what’s really important to you; whether that’s relationships, your health, or your career. The key is to find your better, and make it happen.

If you’ve been keeping up with Frankly Ray, you’ll know that I made a resolution to keep up my health and activity level because I feel better about myself when I’m working out and eating healthy. I spent January boxing it out at one of Calgary’s new boxing studios, Undrcard. I joined their 15 out of 30 day #YOTK (Year of the Knockout) challenge, because why go once when you can go every day, right? A month long challenge seemed easy, especially because I only have to go every other day. But committing to a whole month was a challenge for me. I had to keep reminding myself to put my health first, and all those emails second. 

The most rewarding part of the challenge, besides meeting really great people at the studio, was seeing myself get better. By the end I wasn’t worried about what number each punch was, but trying to push myself to go faster and harder with the basic punches that I didn’t have to think twice about. Anything you practice you will get better at, but it had been awhile since I tried something that I had to learn from scratch. Pushing myself day after day at a sport that I wasn’t comfortable with, motivated me and was #MyBetter for the first month of the year.
