These warmer days have me thinking it’s already Spring and crossing my fingers that we are done with the snow. More importantly I’ve been in a Spring cleaning mindset; clearing the clutter and just looking to refresh all aspects of my life. What I’ve determined that means is simplifying and moving into a more minimalistic mindset by focusing on the staples.
The easiest place to start is my wardrobe, since that’s the first thing I think of when I hear the word staples; classic jeans, a black dress, white tank top. The things that are necessary to keep your wardrobe flowing. I find it refreshing and relieving to go through my closet and get rid the pieces that I haven’t worn in the last year. At a time in my life when I don’t have the same disposable income that I had in university, I tend not to compulsively shop, but every once in awhile I’ll find a piece in my closet that still has a tag on it. The goal is to get it down to the basics that I need for a solid wardrobe with pieces and outfits that I love.
My staples for this upcoming Spring season are these light coloured jeggings; they are comfortable and keep all my outfits light and Spring-ish. Keeping with that theme, my other staples this season are my classic white tee and a light grey sweater (let’s be real, it could still snow), and my white chucks. Although I have been wearing this outfit at least once a week, the staples that make up this outfit, can be swapped in and out with other outfits.
Staples are also essential for wellness, and keeping a balance in life. It’s easy to get caught up in the latest health and fitness trends. Who doesn’t like trying the latest super food? For me, I’ve realized I find more success in sticking with the staples than bouncing around between routines, meals, and fitness trends.
SPUD has the best weekly staples box, just enough food to get through the week and a balance of fruits, vegetables, protein, dairy and snacks. It’s a selection of the most ordered “staple” items which makes it super easy to fill my fridge with one order. It’s been my go-to for groceries, plus it’s organic and convenient (they drop it off at your house once a week). The staples box is on sale until March 31 for $40 ($25 off the regular price for new members) so there is no reason not to try it (order it here). If you have never tried online grocery shopping before, you’ll be hooked.
If you’ve been following along you know I’ve been bouncing around trying out different studios and fitness classes, which has been awesome. There is nothing better than switching up your fitness routine to get out of a plateau or slump, but I’ve found that I haven’t been able to keep up my muscle growth or a consistent routine driving all around the city like a crazy (fit) lady.
Moving into the Spring, I’m going back to my staples which are at the gym. It’s where I am the most motivated and see the most results. Don’t get me wrong, you’ll still see me out and about at my fave places but for that summer bod, the majority of my focus will be at the gym.
What are your Spring staples?
