I will be completely honest and say that I never owned a pair of New Balance shoes before this; only because Nike’s usually came in bright colours that sucked me into buying them. But I did hear that New Balance had amazing runners so I was pumped to get a pair into my collection. Unsurprisingly, New Balance has an awesome Women’s only section set up in all Sport Cheks to make it more accessible to active women.
I was invited to check out the Women’s Only space in the Sunridge Sport Chek where I met up with New Balance ambassador Heather Gardiner who showed me the ins and outs of what New Balance is. They have a great selection of technical gear and casual lifestyle pieces. The first thing I told Heather was that I don’t run; I know New Balance is known for it’s running gear but I was there to bring it to the other workouts, like spin and weight lifting.
We went through the New Balance Space deciding what pieces would best fit my lifestyle and the activities I do; like hiking, and walking my dog (and spin of course). I stayed away from more of the technical running gear, and the pieces that had reflectors on it and went more for usable pieces like mesh tights and a sweater (that also had mesh down the back). I tried on a few different outfits, analyzing each piece for the look, feel and fit. Usually, I don’t try things on (#sorrynotsorry) but it makes a huge difference when comparing pieces one after the other. It’s easy to determine what fit works the best, and what looks the best on your body.
I picked out a full outfit that I could wear to and during my workouts. The leggings are absolutely a dream, I basically live in them now. They are thick enough that I’m not worried about squatting in them, but they don’t make me overheat. They have cute mesh on the bottom quarter and are high waisted. The sports bra is equally as awesome, I absolutely love the support and coverage that it offers while still fitting into my monotone look I put together. The black tank top is simple and easy to throw on for any workout, it’s light and comfy – plus it’s black so you can head to lunch after and no one knows any different.
If you’re looking for a new workout look and feel I highly recommend you head to Sport Chek’s New Balance Women’s Only Space.
